Basketball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for St. John's

St. John hadn't done well against Episcopal recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The St. John's Mavericks snuck past the Episcopal Knights with a 72-67 victory. For the Mavericks, this counts as revenge for the 72-59 win the Knights walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2024.

St. John's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sebastian Williams-Adams, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 11 boards. That's the most points Williams-Adams has posted since back in November of 2024. Emmanuel Nwabuoku was another key player, dropping a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds.

The win was the fourth in a row for St. John's, bringing their record for this year to 19-8. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.5 points per game. As for Episcopal, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 18-8.

St. John's and Episcopal should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. St. John's (ranked 100th) will meet Empowering Others Prep (ranked 294th) at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Episcopal will face off against Cooper at 7:00 p.m. on January 31st up 775 places (158 vs. 933).
