Volleyball Recap: Brownstown Central Starts Season with Win Against Eastern

Brownstown Central gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. They blew past the Eastern Musketeers 3-0. The Braves have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Musketeers, too.

Brownstown Central not only won, but also showed off some consistency: they kept Eastern between 17 and 20 points across their sets. The match finished with set scores of 25-17, 25-20, 25-20.

Brownstown Central's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Finley Wheeler led the charge by getting 33 assists and ten digs. Wheeler is on a roll when it comes to assists, as she's now posted 14 or more in each of the last 37 games she's played dating back to last season. Sophie Wischmeier was another key player, getting 14 digs and 13 kills.

When it comes to explaining why Eastern lost, don't look at Eliza Starrett. Despite the final result, she had 27 digs.

Eastern's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Coming up, Brownstown Central will venture away from home to challenge Bloomington North at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Eastern, they will be taking part in a tournament against Salem at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.
