Softball Game Preview: Fairhope Pirates vs. Robertsdale Golden Bears

Fairhope is a perfect 10-0 against Robertsdale since February of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Fairhope Pirates will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Robertsdale Golden Bears at 7:00 p.m. The last three games Fairhope has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Fairhope fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Gulf Shores on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Dolphins by a score of 8-7. That's two games in a row now that the Pirates have lost by just one run.

Lily Guimarin spent all 7.1 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and five unearned) runs on 11 hits. What's more, she posted four strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March of 2024.

On the hitting side, Mia Gates led a balanced group of hitters, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-5. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Anna Bumpers, who scored a run while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Robertsdale was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They came up short against Baker, falling 15-0.

Fairhope now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Robertsdale, their loss dropped their record down to 1-4.

Everything went Fairhope's way against Robertsdale when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Fairhope made off with a 9-3 win. Does Fairhope have another victory up their sleeve, or will Robertsdale turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
