Recap: Shaw Raiders vs. Cairo Syrupmakers
After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Hardaway, the Shaw Raiders were happy to have found some success on Saturday. They breezed by Cairo at home to the tune of 77-26. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 48-16.
Tiara Tucker was her usual excellent self, shooting 4-for-7 from beyond the arc and dropping a double-double on 36 points and 15 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Quishyi Walcott, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten steals.
When it comes to explaining why Cairo lost, one person who can't be blamed is Makhia Evers. Despite the final result, she scored 14 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Shaquara Mills was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Cairo smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. This was only their 12th loss (out of 13 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.
Shaw's win bumped their record up to 13-10. As for Cairo, they are on a 12-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-20.
Shaw will head out on the road to take on Westover at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Westover has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Cairo, they will be playing at home against Bainbridge at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Cairo is coming into the match with 14 straight defeats at home, meaning Bainbridge will have to defend against a squad hungry for a win.
