Basketball Recap: Alameda Comes Up Short

Alameda was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They had to suffer through a 63-21 loss at the hands of the Village Mountaineers. The Pirates were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 33-13.

Eduardo Cantillo and Vinny Arguero certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Cantillo posted six points along with eight boards and four blocks, while Arguero put up six points.

Village was led to victory by James Driggers and Carter Sterk. Driggers went 8 for 19 en route to 24 points in addition to seven rebounds and five steals, while Sterk went 9 of 21 on his way to 25 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Driggers has scored at least a third of Village's points. Alex Nau was another key player, putting up three points along with five assists and four steals.

Alameda's defeat dropped their record down to 1-10. As for Village, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 7-9 record.

Alameda wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 56-45 loss against Arrupe Jesuit on the 4th. As for Village, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against James Irwin at 7:30 p.m. on February 11th.
