Baseball Game Preview: Nova Titans vs. Mater Lakes Academy Bears

The Nova Titans will take on the Mater Lakes Academy Bears at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Nova 3.9, Mater Lakes Academy 4) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Nova's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Coral Springs 1-0. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Titans as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

The result came thanks to Cody Boisvert's shutout, as he gave up just eight hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Nova is undefeated when he allows at most two earned runs, but 5-6 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Nova's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Cody Kunca, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Mater Lakes Academy's offense. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Columbus on Tuesday. The Bears have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Mater Lakes Academy had to settle for second despite strong performances on the mound from David Ortega and CHRIS ROQUE Ortega pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits, while ROQUE tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, Ortega gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024.

Nova's victory bumped their record up to 8-6. As for Mater Lakes Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-6-3.

Nova couldn't quite finish off Mater Lakes Academy in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 and fell 2-0. Can Nova avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
