Softball Recap: North Central Takes a Loss

North Central extended their losing streak to seven on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 5-13-1 in the process. They came up short against the Ben Davis Giants, falling 13-1. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Panthers couldn't push the score so high this time.

As for Ben Davis, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-10 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.4 runs over those games.

For Ben Davis' part, Riley Gilliland made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Gilliland has posted since back in April. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season.

In other batting news, Bailee Latimer was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. Mariana Lopez was another key player, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one double.

Looking ahead, North Central will look to defend their home field on Friday against Lawrence Central at 5:30 p.m. As for Ben Davis, they will face off against Cathedral at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Fighting Irish will roll in looking for their 22nd straight victory, something the Giants surely won't give up without a fight.
