Preview: Wabash Apaches vs. Southwood Knights

The Wabash Apaches's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Southwood Knights at 3:00 p.m. on December 29th. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.

Wabash struggled with assists on Friday (Whitko had eight more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Wabash took a 55-38 bruising from Whitko.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Kaitlynn Honeycutt, who scored seven points along with six steals. Honeycutt is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Kierra Wilson was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.

Meanwhile, Southwood's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. Their rough 51-30 defeat to Wabash might stick with them for a while. Southwood has struggled against Wabash recently, as their game on Tuesday was their third consecutive lost matchup.

The losing side was boosted by Emmerson Chellis, who scored nine points along with 12 rebounds. She also posted two blocks for the first time this season.

Wabash has not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season. As for Southwood, they have fallen quite a ways from their 19-6 record last season and are now at 2-8.

Friday's game is shaping up to be a scrappy game: Wabash have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 28.9 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Southwood struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 28.6 rebounds per game. Given Wabash's sizeable advantage in that area, Southwood will need to find a way to close that gap.

Wabash took their victory against Southwood in their previous meeting on Tuesday by a conclusive 51-30. Will Wabash repeat their success, or does Southwood have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
