Half Moon Bay fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Santa Cruz on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 13-10 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cardinals. On the bright side, the ten- run effort marked the Cougars' highest-scoring game to date.

Jason Couto made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his six plate appearances.

Half Moon Bay's loss was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 4-10. As for Santa Cruz, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 7-2.

Coming up, Half Moon Bay will host San Mateo at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bearcats' pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so the Cougars' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Santa Cruz, they will head out on the road to challenge Santa Teresa at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
