New Palestine's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Jacob Davis, who threw for 221 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 86.7% of his passes, and Caden Jacobia, who rushed for 131 yards and two touchdowns on only 14 carries. New Palestine didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Pendleton Heights to a completion percentage of just 50%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from two players: Sam Hirschy and Logan Parks, who each logged one passes deflected. New Palestine hasn't an opponent to post a completion percentage of 0.63 or higher in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, it may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Greenfield-Central ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They won a contest that couldn't have been any closer, slipping by Shelbyville 28-27. The Cougars haven't had any issues with the Golden Bears recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.
New Palestine better keep an eye on Braylen Benavente. He was instrumental in Greenfield-Central's win, rushing for 72 yards and two scores.
Greenfield-Central didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Zach Waterman.
Greenfield-Central now has a winning record of 3-2. As for New Palestine, their record is now 5-0.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. New Palestine has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 259.6 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Greenfield-Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 247.8 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything came up roses for New Palestine against Greenfield-Central in their previous meeting back in September of 2024, as the team secured a 38-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Dragons since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
