After taking the lead in the fourth quarter,
Hartford (Mich.) held on for a 27-24 victory over
Lawton (Mich.) on Saturday. The difference for the Indians was
Gareth MacMillan ran for a touchdown.
The Blue Devils pulled ahead on a kick return, and subsequently went into halftime leading 17-14. The Indians took the lead for good with a touchdown run by MacMillan in the fourth quarter.
Despite scoring seven points in the third, Hartford still trailed by 4 points going into the fourth quarter. But six points in the fourth helped HHS pull out the victory.
The loss snapped Lawton's 5-game winning streak.
The Indians' most effective player was
Luke Traver. The junior quarterback threw two touchdowns. He has now scored five touchdowns on the season.
The victory will ease some of the sting of Hartford's close 27-24 loss to LHS last season.
The defeat comes as a step back for Lawton, which notched a 38-7 victory over Decatur in its previous outing. The win was a nice bounce back for HHS, which lost to Watervliet last week, 41-29.
Lawton (5-1) goes up against Marcellus in a Southwestern - South game matchup next week, while Hartford (5-1) locks horns with Decatur also in a Southwestern - South game.
