Jasper is 1-9 against Gibson Southern since June of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Wildcats will take on the Titans at 5:00 p.m. Jasper is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.
On Saturday, Jasper made easy work of Forest Park and carried off a 12-3 victory. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Rangers recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.
Bryn Smith spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on three hits and racked up 15 Ks.
On the hitting side, Carlee Rogers was incredible, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Sophie Werner, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Jasper kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are 10-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Gibson Southern beat Sullivan 8-5 on Saturday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Titans.
Gibson Southern also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Miley Sperling gave up just two earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Payton Cummings, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and six RBI. Laney Scherer was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four runs.
Gibson Southern pushed their record up to 13-8 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Jasper, their record is now 13-7-1.
Jasper suffered a grim 8-2 defeat to Gibson Southern in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Wildcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
