Baseball Recap: Custer County Wins Going Away Against Centennial

Custer County got themselves on the board against Centennial on Thursday, but Centennial never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Rams with a sharp 24-0 win. The contest marked the Bobcats' most dominant victory of the season so far.

Elijah Flynn was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Flynn was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs. He is becoming a predictor of Custer County's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-6 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Custer County got a massive performance out of Wyatt Grundy, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and five RBI. That's the most stolen bases Grundy has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Colt Moulton, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with six RBI, three runs, and three doubles.

Custer County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .838. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Custer County is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.8 runs over those games. As for Centennial, they are on a 15-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-8.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Custer County beat the Rams by a score of 29-1 later that day.
