The Hamilton Heights Huskies will head out to challenge the Northwestern Tigers at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hamilton Heights is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.2 runs per game this season.
Hamilton Heights made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Yorktown, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Huskies fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 10-8 on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Huskies have suffered since April 9, 2024.
Kamryn Rhoton made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was McKenzie Jackson, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Northwestern was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-4 heartbreaker at the hands of Lewis Cass.
Bailey Marcus put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up three earned runs off only two hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run.
Marcus wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Tessa Ortman, who went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Northwestern's record now sits at 3-7. As for Hamilton Heights, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-5.
Northwestern's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Hamilton Heights has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .455. It's a different story for Northwestern, though, as they've only averaged .347. Will they be able to contain Hamilton Heights' hitters?
Hamilton Heights skirted past Northwestern 6-5 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Huskies since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
