Softball Game Preview: Chesterton Trojans vs. La Porte Slicers

The Chesterton Trojans will head out on the road to face off against the La Porte Slicers at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Chesterton will be strutting in after a win while La Porte will be coming in after a defeat.

Chesterton had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 14-run drubbing they dealt Michigan City on Tuesday. The Trojans' pitcher stepped up to hand the Wolves a 14-0 shutout. Considering the Trojans have won six contests by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Lexi Smith was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Lila Miller, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

Chesterton hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Michigan City struck out eight times.

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for La Porte's offense. They lost 9-0 to Lake Central on Tuesday. The Slicers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Chesterton's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-6. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for La Porte, they now have a losing record of 7-8.

Wednesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Chesterton hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .340. However, it's not like La Porte struggles in that department as they've averaged .361. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Chesterton suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to La Porte when the teams last played on April 9th. Can the Trojans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
