Softball Game Preview: Bisbee Pumas vs. Tombstone Yellow Jackets

Bisbee has won six straight games at home, while Tombstone has won six straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Friday. The Pumas will host the Yellow Jackets at 3:45 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Last Monday, Bisbee got the win against San Miguel by a conclusive 20-4. The Pumas have beaten the Vipers the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Vipers has come to flipping the script.

Meanwhile, Tombstone got themselves on the board against Santa Rita on Monday, but Santa Rita never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 19-0 margin over the Eagles.

Kyla Gross was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with three RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Tombstone got a massive performance out of McKenzy Nicoll, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance also gave Nicoll a new career-high in triples (two). Another player making a difference was Brianna True, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Tombstone kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in eight consecutive matches.

Bisbee's victory bumped their record up to 15-7. As for Tombstone, the win got them back to even at 12-12.

Bisbee beat Tombstone 10-7 in their previous matchup back in March. Do the Pumas have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Yellow Jackets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
