Murrieta Mesa is a perfect 4-0 against Heritage since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Murrieta Mesa Rams will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Heritage Patriots at 3:15 p.m. Murrieta Mesa will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
Murrieta Mesa's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Saturday. Everything went their way against Fontana as Murrieta Mesa made off with a 7-0 victory. Fans of the Rams have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.
Tanner Blackmon was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Blackmon was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Zach Janczyk was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. Brett Rawls was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base.
Murrieta Mesa hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most three strikeouts every time they've taken the field this season.
While Heritage didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-13-2), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top against Liberty by a score of 6-2 on Tuesday.
Like Murrieta Mesa, Heritage also got a great game from a two-way player: Zach Cedillo. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching four innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Cedillo was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 4-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brennan Hendricks, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three RBI and one double. That double was his first of the season.
Murrieta Mesa's win bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Heritage, their victory bumped their record up to 6-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Murrieta Mesa has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Heritage struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Murrieta Mesa came out on top in a nail-biter against Heritage in their previous meeting back in February of 2020, sneaking past 3-2. Will Murrieta Mesa repeat their success, or does Heritage have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
