Baseball Game Preview: Oakland Tech Bulldogs vs. Piedmont Highlanders

The Oakland Tech Bulldogs will head out to take on the Piedmont Highlanders at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Oakland Tech is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.

The home team had won the previous four meetings between Oakland Tech and Skyline, and Skyline kept the tradition alive. The Bulldogs lost 17-8 to the Titans on Friday. The Bulldogs' loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Elijah Rucker was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Hayden Burton was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

Piedmont came out on top against Alameda on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run seventh inning. The Highlanders had just enough and edged out the Hornets 8-7. The win was familiar territory for the Highlanders, who have now won three games in a row.

The team relied heavily on Diego Delventhal, who went 3-for-5 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Jonah Cha-Foster, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

Piedmont always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Oakland Tech's defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 10-7. As for Piedmont, their victory bumped their record up to 12-4.

Everything went Oakland Tech's way against Piedmont in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Oakland Tech made off with an 8-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
