Preview: Northwest Whitfield Bruins vs. Cedartown Bulldogs
The Northwest Whitfield Bruins will head out on the road to face off against the Cedartown Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
Last Friday, Northwest Whitfield was the victim of a tough 42-20 loss at the hands of Central. It was the first time this season that Northwest Whitfield let down their fans at home.
Gavin Nuckolls put forth a good effort for the losing side as he rushed for 80 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 195 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Cedartown had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 28.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They blew past Southeast Whitfield County 49-0 on the road. Given Cedartown's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked 102nd, while Southeast Whitfield County is ranked 423rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Cedartown's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Drew Ledbetter, who threw for 154 yards and three touchdowns while completing 100% of his passes. Ledbetter is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last three games he's played. Demarcus Gardner also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Central's win bumped their season record to 9-0 while Northwest Whitfield's loss dropped theirs to 6-3.
Northwest Whitfield was dealt a bruising 53-13 defeat at the hands of Cedartown in their previous matchup back in November of 2022. Can Northwest Whitfield avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
