Basketball Recap: Santa Clara Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Win

While Santa Clara didn't have the best season last year (they finished 2-22), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They rang in the new year with a 64-57 victory over the MacDonald Condor on Saturday. Winning may never get old, but the Bruins sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

Varun Dangeti went supernova, shooting 57% from the field on his way to 25 points and six boards. Giovanni Hansen was another key player, putting up six points and eight rebounds.

Santa Clara was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as MacDonald only posted four.

MacDonald's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mateen Mazhar, who posted 17 points. Mazhar is crushing it when it comes to points: he's scored at least 17 every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Yaqub Arale, who went 6-for-10 en route to 16 points and five boards.

Santa Clara's record is now 8-1. As for MacDonald, they moved to 6-2 with that loss, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Looking ahead, Santa Clara will head out to square off against Gunn at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for MacDonald, they will face off against Fremont at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
