Basketball Recap: Shawnee Mission East Takes a Loss

Shawnee Mission East lost against Rockhurst back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Shawnee Mission East Lancers received a blow as they fell 68-52 to the Rockhurst Hawklets. While losing is never fun, the Lancers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 72nd in Kansas, while the Hawklets are ranked fourth in Missouri).

Rockhurst's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Callen Eskew led the charge by putting up 16 points and six rebounds. The match was Eskew's third in a row with at least ten points. Kevin Sullivan was another key player, earning 16 points and five boards.

Shawnee Mission East has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-7-1 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.5 points per game. As for Rockhurst, they pushed their record up to 15-3 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Shawnee Mission East has already played their next game (against Gardner-Edgerton), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Rockhurst has also has no score uploaded for their next matchup, this one against Bishop Miege.
