Cade Van De Weg was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and only one walk). He is becoming a predictor of Adams Central's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 8-2 (and 6-7 when he doesn't). Van De Weg was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Max Byerly was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. Adams Central is undefeated when Byerly posts two or more stolen bases, but 8-9 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Hayden Bluhm, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Adams Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .412. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .304 or higher in five consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Whitko posted their closest victory since April 4th on Wednesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against South Adams, sneaking past 4-3. The win was nothing new for the Wildcats as they're now sitting on three straight.
Riley Harman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 14 Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Chandler Cox, who went 1-for-4 with one home run.
Adams Central's record is now 14-9. As for Whitko, they now have a winning record of 14-13.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Adams Central has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.8 hits per game. However, it's not like Whitko struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.7 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Adams Central beat Whitko 3-0 when the teams last played on May 2nd. Do the Flying Jets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wildcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
