Basketball Game Preview: Lynchburg HomeSchool Patriots vs. Regents Lions

Lynchburg HomeSchool is 0-6 against Regents since December of 2017 but things could change on Thursday. The two teams will compete for holiday cheer at 6:30 p.m.

It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 72-44, which was the final score in Lynchburg HomeSchool's tilt against New Covenant on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Patriots can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 148th, while the Gryphons are ranked 11th).

Meanwhile, Regents put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They claimed a resounding 63-17 win over United Christian Academy. The Lions have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five contests by 29 points or more this season.

Lynchburg HomeSchool better focus on containing Morris Hoffman and Tucker Jamison as the pair were huge in Regents' win. Hoffman went 6 of 7 on his way to 13 points along with eight boards and six assists, while Jamison went 8 of 11 en route to 17 points and three steals. Hoffman is also crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Luke Trivette was another key player, putting up four points and nine rebounds.

Regents smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in nine consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Regents' victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-0. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.0 points per game. As for Lynchburg HomeSchool, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-6.

Lynchburg HomeSchool came up short against Regents when the teams last played back in January of 2023, falling 61-56. Can Lynchburg HomeSchool avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
