Baseball Recap: North Canyon Comes Up Short

North Canyon was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-7 heartbreaker at the hands of the Desert Edge Scorpions. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Scorpions this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-2 last Monday.

Jacob Kirby was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4. North Canyon is 2-1 when Kirby posts three or more hits, but 3-4 otherwise. Mason Hougland was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in both of his plate appearances.

Even though they lost, North Canyon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. This was only their first loss (out of four games) when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

North Canyon's defeat dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Desert Edge, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 2-3.

Coming up, North Canyon will challenge Kellis at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. North Canyon's pitchers better be ready for this one: Kellis has averaged an impressive 6.3 runs per game this season. As for Desert Edge, they will host Buckeye at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
