Soccer Game Preview: John Paul II vs. Incarnate Word Academy

The John Paul II Centurions will square off against the Incarnate Word Academy Angels at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. John Paul II is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 3.4 goals per game this season.

On Friday, John Paul II sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 win over The Christian School at Castle Hills.

Jacob Cantu and Teddy Chavez scored both of John Paul II's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 18 goals.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Incarnate Word Academy). Their defense stepped up to hand Light Christian Academy an 8-0 shutout on Wednesday. Give the Angels' defense some credit: that's the team's fourth straight shutout.

Incarnate Word Academy has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-6-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up two goals over those six games. As for John Paul II, their victory bumped their record up to 9-5-2.
