Baseball Recap: Kearny Victorious

Kearny hadn't done well against Mount Miguel recently (they were 0-7 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Kearny skirted past Mount Miguel 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Komets have posted since May 17, 2024.

Ansel Eaton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits.

On the hitting side, Kearny let DJ Martinez and Nicolas Hembera run wild. Martinez scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2, while Hembera scored a run and stole three bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances. Those three stolen bases gave Hembera a new career-high.

Kearny's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-5. As for Mount Miguel, the loss snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 4-3 record.

Looking ahead, Kearny will host Mar Vista at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Mount Miguel, they will be taking part in a tournament against San Diego at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
