Baseball Game Preview: Pioneer Patriots vs. Laguna Creek Cardinals

Pioneer is on a six-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Laguna Creek is on a ten-game streak of away wins (also dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The Pioneer Patriots will welcome the Laguna Creek Cardinals at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Tuesday, Pioneer beat Winters 7-4.

Maverick Gill and Joe Mendez dominated on the mound. Gill pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits, while Mendez pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Gill has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Landon Dahler was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-3. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Cisco Quintana, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Laguna Creek posted their closest win since April 23, 2024 on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Central Valley 5-3.

Dom Rivera tossed a big game, pitching 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ivan Tapia, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. That stolen base was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Ryan Eddy, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Laguna Creek's win bumped their record up to 4-0. As for Pioneer, their victory bumped their record up to 2-4.
