Preview: Oakman Wildcats vs. Meek Tigers
The Oakman Wildcats will head out on the road to face off against the Meek Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Oakman has three straight victories, Meek has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Tuesday, Oakman earned a 57-47 victory over Addison. Oakman pushed the score to 51-31 by the end of the third, a deficit Addison cut but never quite recovered from.
Oakman relied on the efforts of Trenton Warren, who scored 21 points along with eight rebounds and two blocks, and Rick Johnson, who scored 24 points along with six rebounds and four steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Johnson has scored at least a third of Oakman's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aidan Carson, who scored five points along with seven assists.
Meanwhile, Meek's 24-8 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They were outmatched by Carbon Hill at home and fell 87-45. While losing is never fun, Meek can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 351st, while Carbon Hill is ranked 103rd).
Oakman is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-2 record this season. As for Meek, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season.
Oakman beat Meek 63-50 when the teams last played back in November of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Oakman since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
