Softball Game Preview: Point Pleasant Big Blacks vs. Parkersburg South Patriots

The Point Pleasant Big Blacks will challenge the Parkersburg South Patriots at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Point Pleasant has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with three straight defeats, while Parkersburg South will come in with six straight wins.

Saturday just wasn't the day for Point Pleasant's offense. They lost 14-0 to Cabell Midland on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Parkersburg South faced Hurricane in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Patriots never let the Redskins get on the board and left with a 5-0 victory. The Patriots' pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last three contests.

The result came thanks to Anniston Shelton's shutout, as she gave up just two hits and racked up 19 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Parkersburg South's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Kylie Connley, who went 1-for-4 with one home run. Jaiden Vargas was another, going 2-for-3 with two runs.

Parkersburg South's victory bumped their record up to 13-5. As for Point Pleasant, their loss dropped their record down to 9-8.

Point Pleasant came up short against Parkersburg South when the teams last played back in March of 2024, falling 13-8. Can the Big Blacks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
