Baseball Recap: South Florence Comes Up Short

After flying high against Darlington last Thursday, South Florence came back down to earth. South Florence took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the East Clarendon Wolverines on Friday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wolverines this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-6 two weeks ago.

Chance Caulder was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed 5.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five).

On the hitting side, South Florence saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brayden Robinson, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

South Florence's defeat dropped their record down to 8-5. As for East Clarendon, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 8-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. South Florence will host Crestwood at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. South Florence is facing Crestwood at the right time seeing as Crestwood is stuck on a nine-game losing streak. As for East Clarendon, they will welcome Kingstree at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in East Clarendon's favor as the squad sits on five straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Kingstree has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.
