After flying high against Pueblo on Wednesday, Sahuaro came back down to earth. The Cougars took a blow against the Saguaro Sabercats on Friday, falling 86-59. The Cougars were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Sabercats apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2024.

Several Cougars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Cisco Llamas, who shot 45% from the field to rack up 21 points. Llamas' evening made it 17 games in a row in which he has scored at least 17 points. Jordan Martin also deserves some recognition as he grabbed his first steal of the season.

Saguaro got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Justice Hinds out in front who went 6-for-12 on his way to 16 points along with six assists and five rebounds. Hinds is also crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Pierce Harrington, who shot 56% from the field en route to 27 points and five boards.

Having lost for the first time this season, Sahuaro fell to 8-1. As for Saguaro, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-0.

Sahuaro will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Tucson High Magnet School at 7:00 p.m. on January 8, 2026. As for Saguaro, they will head out to square off against Coronado at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Sabercats will need to watch out since the Dons have now posted at least 55 points in their last eight contests.
