Basketball Recap: Rootstown Takes a Loss

Rootstown lost against John F. Kennedy Catholic last Saturday and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Rootstown Rovers were outmatched by the John F. Kennedy Catholic Eagles and fell 77-48. While losing is never fun, the Rovers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 778th, while the Eagles are ranked 182nd).

Leading John F. Kennedy Catholic to victory were Nick Ryan and Henry Phillips. Ryan dropped a double-double on 30 points and 13 rebounds, while Phillips went 8 for 16 to rack up 21 points in addition to seven boards and three steals. The contest was Ryan's 30th in a row with at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Preston Geracitano, who posted six points and six assists.

Rootstown dropped their record down to 4-16 with the loss, which was their seventh straight at home. As for John F. Kennedy Catholic, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rootstown will take on East Palestine at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for John F. Kennedy Catholic, they will face off against Lutheran West at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lutheran West has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
