Baseball Recap: Chatham Charter Has No Trouble Against River Mill

Chatham Charter owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the River Mill Jaguars with a sharp 8-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Knights, who have now won six matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.

Zach Cartrette made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. Chatham Charter is undefeated when Cartrette posts two or more runs, but 3-6 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jace Young, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Chatham Charter's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 5-6 when he doesn't). Ryder Murphy was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.

Chatham Charter was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .391. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Chatham Charter is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for River Mill, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 7-4.

Coming up, River Mill will venture away from home to square off against Durham School of the Arts at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Chatham Charter will be paying especially close attention to the Jaguars' contest: after the Jaguars faces off against the Bulldogs, they'll take on Chatham Charter again at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
