Softball Game Preview: Palmview Lobos vs. Rio Grande City Rattlers

The Palmview Lobos will head out on the road to face off against the Rio Grande City Rattlers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Palmview is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.

Palmview is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Nixon just ended the team's six-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell just short of the Mustangs by a score of 4-3.

Gabriela Garza and Yailyn Trevino did some serious damage despite the final result: Garza scored a run and stole two bases while going 3-for-4, while Trevino scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Garza is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games she's played. Marina Rodriguez was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one RBI.

They weren't the only ones working in the hit department: Palmview kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. This was only their first loss (out of seven games) when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, Rio Grande City came tearing into Friday's matchup with nine straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Patriots with a sharp 12-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Rattlers, who have now won 12 games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Rio Grande City pushed their record up to 13-4 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.7 runs over those games. As for Palmview, the defeat was their first on the road , dropping their record down to 10-6.

Palmview suffered a grim 17-2 defeat to Rio Grande City in their previous meeting back in February. Can Palmview avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
