Preview: Jefferson Panthers vs. East Helena Vigilantes
The Jefferson Panthers will head out on the road to square off against the East Helena Vigilantes at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Jefferson has nine straight victories, East Helena has five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Last Friday, Jefferson didn't have too much trouble with Three Forks on the road as they won 65-49. 65 seems to be a good number for Jefferson as the team scooped up a win with the same number of points in their previous game.
It was another big night for MacKenzie Layng, who scored 18 points along with seven assists and four steals. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last eight times she's played. Another player making a difference was Brooklyn Miller, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds and five steals.
Meanwhile, East Helena took a serious blow against Billings Central Catholic on Saturday, falling 63-17. While losing is never fun, East Helena can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Montana basketball rankings (they are ranked 89th, while Billings Central Catholic is ranked sixth).
Jefferson pushed their record up to 9-1 with that win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.3 points per game. As for East Helena, their loss dropped their record down to 2-6.
