Recap: Coronado Dons vs. Metro Tech Knights
The Coronado Dons were the 54-36 winner over the Metro Tech Knights when they last played one another back in December of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Coronado fell 48-39 to Metro Tech on Tuesday.
Despite the loss, Coronado still got an impressive performance from Kailyn Holsey, who dropped a triple-double on 15 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 steals. Holsey scored a full 38.5% of Coronado's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ariel Douglas, who scored 4 points along with 11 rebounds.
Yaritzi Layva was the offensive standout of the contest as she scored 23 points along with 6 rebounds and 4 steals. Another player making a difference was Areli Andrade, who scored 10 points along with 7 rebounds.
Coronado's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Metro Tech, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-0.
Coronado will be staying on the road on Wednesday to face off against Desert Mountain at 6:00 p.m. on November 22nd. Hopefully Desert Mountain focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 28 on Tuesday. As for Metro Tech, they will face off against Mingus at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Mingus presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Metro Tech in Arizona (Mingus is ranked seventh, while Metro Tech is ranked 53rd).
