Softball Recap: Lake Park Takes a Loss

Lake Park made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Wheaton North, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Lancers fell just short of the Falcons by a score of 2-0 on Friday. The Lancers have struggled against the Falcons recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.

Gianna Furlano spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on seven hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Lake Park saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gaetana Calo, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one double.

Lake Park's loss dropped their record down to 13-5. As for Wheaton North, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-2 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lake Park will host Buffalo Grove at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. As for Wheaton North, they will be playing in front of their home fans against St. Charles North at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The North Stars' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Falcons' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
