Flag Football Game Preview: Douglas County Huskies vs. Chaparral Wolverines

The Douglas County Huskies will head out on the road to square off against the Chaparral Wolverines at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. Douglas County's defense has only allowed 12 points per game this season, so Chaparral's offense will have their work cut out for them.

Douglas County barely beat Regis Jesuit the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Huskies blew past the Raiders, posting a 40-6 win. Considering the Huskies have won five games by more than 30 points this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Douglas County's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB three times. Hayley Rice was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two sacks herself. She has been hot, having posted at least one sack the last five times she's played. Mariia Dykalenko got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Meanwhile, Chaparral faced Northfield in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Wolverines slipped by the Nighthawks 13-12. The score was all tied up 6-6 at the break, but the Wolverines were the better team in the second half.

A big part of Chaparral's victory came down to the chemistry between Zoey Fink and her top target Salem Sherman. Fink threw for 194 yards and one TD while completing 77.3% of her passes while Sherman picked up 74 receiving yards and one touchdown.

Chaparral is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 7.0 points on average over those games. As for Douglas County, their record now sits at 10-3.

Douglas County came up short against Chaparral when the teams last played back in October of 2024, falling 27-18. Can the Huskies avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
