Basketball Recap: Indianapolis Scecina Memorial Falls Despite Big Games from Ainsley Brown and Kaila Leath

Indianapolis Scecina Memorial lost against Monrovia back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Indianapolis Scecina Memorial Crusaders came up short against the Monrovia Bulldogs, falling 67-43. While losing is never fun, the Crusaders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 278th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 132nd).

Kaila Leath and Ainsley Brown certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Leath almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine boards, while Brown went 7 for 16 en route to 17 points and seven rebounds. That's the most points Leath has posted since back in December of 2024. Journee Thomas also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Monrovia's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Emery Newlin, who almost dropped a triple-double on ten points, 12 assists, and nine steals. Another player making a difference was Willow Daly, who went 6 of 7 on her way to 13 points along with five boards and four steals.

Indianapolis Scecina Memorial now has a losing record at 10-11. As for Monrovia, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-7.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Indianapolis Scecina Memorial will square off against Eastern Hancock at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Monrovia, they will challenge Park Tudor at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Monrovia is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 61 points per game this season.
