With a playoff win on the line, James Madison rose to the challenge on Wednesday. They came out on top against the Langley Saxons by a score of 4-1. The victory was nothing new for the Warhawks as they're now sitting on 18 straight.
Lillian Atkins spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on seven hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Grace Marshall was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Riley Brick, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three stolen bases and one double.
James Madison's win bumped their record up to 22-3. As for Langley, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 19-7.
Coming up, James Madison will face off against Yorktown at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Warhawks 2.8, the Patriots 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned. Langley does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
