Softball Recap: Norton Falls Short Against Ranked Hopkinton

Norton faced Hopkinton in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Lancers fell just short of the Hillers by a score of 2-1. The Lancers were red-hot at the plate heading into the match (they scored no less than ten runs in the three contests prior), but the Hillers' pitcher proved too tough.

Liana Danubio spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Gabby Rodriguez made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one home run. That home run marked the first that she launched this season.

Having lost for the first time this season, Norton fell to 7-1. As for Hopkinton, their record is now 6-1.

Coming up, Norton will take on Blackstone Valley RVT at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. As for Hopkinton, they will face off against Newton North at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
