Football Recap: Adrian Torres and Jorge Antunez Secure Win for Kerman

Kerman had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 34 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They strolled past the Central Valley Christian Cavaliers with points to spare, taking the game 39-20. The Lions have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Cavaliers, too.

Kerman was led to victory by Jorge Antunez and Adrian Torres. Antunez rushed for 96 yards and two touchdowns, while Torres threw for 325 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 71.9% of his passes. Those two rushing touchdowns gave Antunez a new career-high.

Kerman didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Central Valley Christian to a completion percentage of just 31.6%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from three players: Elijah Chalabian, Steve Luna, and Xavier Montalvo, who each logged two passes deflected. Given Torres' standout performance, it's clear Central Valley Christian's secondary just wasn't on the same level.

Despite the loss, Central Valley Christian still got an impressive performance from Shondel Hogan, who picked up 75 receiving yards and one score, and also rushed for 58 yards and one touchdown. Hogan really caught the secondary sleeping when he pulled down a catch that went for 75 yards. Speaking of playmakers, who could forget Austin Reed, who went all the way with a kickoff return for a touchdown.

Kerman's record now sits at 5-1. As for Central Valley Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-5.

Looking ahead, Kerman will head out to challenge Reedley at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Pirates will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each matchup than the last. As for Central Valley Christian, they will be playing at home against Kingsburg at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
