Preview: Southern Columbia Area vs. Neumann-Goretti

Neumann-Goretti (11-0) and Southern Columbia Area (13-0) are battling to keep their seasons alive when they face off in a playoff match this Friday at 7:00 PM. Not surprisingly for a postseason game, Southern Columbia Area and Neumann-Goretti will be the toughest opponent either team has met this year.

Last week, Neumann-Goretti took on Schuylkill Haven. With 24 points in the first half, Neumann-Goretti started the game off on a good foot. That put it at a 24 - 7 advantage. The offense kept at it in the second half and scored another 20. In the end, Neumann-Goretti steamrollered its way to an easy 44 - 7 victory.

As for Southern Columbia Area, it has netted another blowout to add to its collection (now totaling 13) after its most recent game. It put the hurt on Mount Carmel last week with a conclusive 49 - 14 victory. One major factor in the win was the play of sophomore Gaige Garcia, who earned three touchdowns and 248 yards rushing the ball. This sound performance was nothing new for Garcia, who has been a rock for Southern Columbia Area in the past 13 games.

Since both teams have excelled on the defensive side of the ball (Neumann-Goretti allowing an average of 9.55 points per game, Southern Columbia Area an average of 12), we'll see which team's offense handles things best when they meet this week.
