Basketball Recap: Sandoval Takes a Loss

Sandoval had lost nine straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped down to 6-22 to make it ten. They received a blow as they fell 62-46 to the Maryville Christian Lions. The Blackhawks were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Lions apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2025.

Despite the loss, Sandoval still got an impressive performance from Josh Gordon, who dropped a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Gordon has been hot recently, having posted eight or more boards the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaxon Dykstra, who posted seven points.

As for Maryville Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.6 points over those games.

Leading Maryville Christian to victory were Gavin Ambuehl and Conner Wuebbels. Ambuehl shot 50% from the field to rack up 21 points, while Wuebbels earned 13 points and six rebounds. Those 21 points gave Ambuehl a new career-high. Braden Waymire was another key player, putting up six points.

Sandoval wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, an 85-36 loss against Wayne City on the 13th. As for Maryville Christian, they have also already played their next matchup, a 46-32 defeat against Father McGivney Catholic on the 13th.
