Softball Game Preview: Astoria Fishermen vs. St. Helens Lions

For the second straight game, Astoria will face off against St. Helens. The Fishermen will head out to square off against the Lions at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Astoria will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak.

Astoria is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Oregon's top teams: St. Helens, who was ranked sixth at the time (Astoria was ranked 13th). The Fishermen's pitcher stepped up to hand the Lions a 1-0 shutout on Friday. The one-run effort marked the Fishermen's lowest-scoring matchup of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

The result came thanks to Maddie Wilkin's shutout, as she gave up just two hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Aryana Adams was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run and one double.

Astoria pushed their record up to 18-4-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games.
