Basketball Recap: Mineral Ridge Comes Up Short

Mineral Ridge lost against Memorial back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Mineral Ridge Rams lost 70-50 to the Memorial Red Devils. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Rams have suffered since February 27, 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Mineral Ridge lost, don't look at Chase Moore. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double with 16 points and 18 rebounds. Those 18 boards gave Moore a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jordan Moore, who went 5-for-6 en route to 11 points.

Even though they lost, Mineral Ridge smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in three consecutive matchups.

It was another big night for Josue Rodriguez, who went 12-for-25 on his way to 30 points along with five rebounds and four steals for Memorial. Rodriguez's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 21 points. Bobby Ramirez Ortiz also deserves some recognition as he scored his first points of the season.

Mineral Ridge's loss dropped their record down to 10-8. As for Memorial, they pushed their record up to 16-4 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home.

Coincidentally, Mineral Ridge and Memorial will both be playing McDonald the next time they take the court. Mineral Ridge will head out to face McDonald at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, while Memorial will host them at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
