Basketball Recap: Latta Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Latta had already won two in a row and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They managed a 59-55 win over the East Clarendon Wolverines. This was a revenge game for the Vikings: when they faced off against the Wolverines back in December of 2024, they had to take a 56-48 loss.

Latta got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Isaiah Mcrae out in front who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 boards. The dominant performance gave Mcrae a new career-high in points. Shayon Mcgruder was another key player, putting up 16 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals.

Latta smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in five consecutive matchups.

Latta pushed their record up to 8-11 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.7 points per game. As for East Clarendon, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost 11 of their last 12 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-13 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Latta has already played their next game (against Green Sea Floyds), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. East Clarendon will face off against Kingstree at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. East Clarendon is facing Kingstree at the right time seeing as Kingstree is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
