Defending Texas state champ North Shore beats Katy in playoff battle between national Top 10 teams

Reigning 6A Division 1 Texas state champs hand Katy its only loss of the season with a 56-35 playoff win.

Ninety-two days ago Katy knocked off the defending Texas 6A Division 1 state champs, North Shore (Houston), 24-21. 

North Shore got its revenge Friday with a 56-35 win to advance to the quarterfinals.

The two Houston-area powers combined to score touchdowns on the first six possessions of the game, producing a 21-21 tie midway through the second quarter.

That's when the Mustangs took over.



Dematrius Davis Jr. and the defending state champs outscored the Tigers 35-14 the rest of the way.

The 2021 Virginia Tech commit totaled over 400 yards of offense to go with six touchdowns. Davis, the 2019 MaxPreps National Sophomore of the Year, threw for 134 yards and three scores to go with 283 yards on the ground and three more touchdowns. Charles King hauled in two of his passing touchdowns and sophomore Jhalyn Bailey had the other.

5-star running back Zachary Evans added two scores on the ground.

North Shore will face either Tompkins (Katy) or Atascocita (Humble) next week with a spot in the semifinals on the line.
