Northwest came tearing into Thursday's contest with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.4 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Lilly Hoffman was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Northwest got a massive performance out of Tharon Thomas, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI Thomas has posted since back in April. Kam Stubbs was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles.
Northwest hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Northwest's victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-9. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.9 runs over those games. As for West, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-8.
Looking ahead, Northwest will welcome Eisenhower at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Tigers' pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so the Grizzlies' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for West, they will venture away from home to challenge Emporia at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Spartans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.55 runs per game on average), something the Pioneers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
