Football Recap: Justin Reaves Jr's Menacing Defense Leads Mullins over Atlantic Collegiate Academy

Mullins was handed a heart-breaking two-point loss in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against Atlantic Collegiate Academy on Friday. The Auctioneers put the hurt on the Armada with a sharp 38-14 victory. The Auctioneers not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since September 20, 2024 (when they won 44-18).

It was another big night for Kanazzion Bethea, who rushed for 131 yards while picking up 8.2 yards per carry, and also threw for 100 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in passer rating (138.9). Tyron Allen was another key player, rushing for 67 yards and one score on only seven carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Mullins was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 251 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 201 rushing yards in three consecutive contests.

Mullins didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Justin Reaves Jr, Terrion Grant, Da'Karai Worley, and Deyon Ford picked up one apiece. Ford is on a roll when it comes to interceptions, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Grant got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

The win got Mullins back to even at 2-2. As for Atlantic Collegiate Academy, they dropped their record down to 0-4 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Coming up, Mullins will welcome Marion at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Atlantic Collegiate Academy, they will venture away from home to square off against Oceanside Collegiate Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Landsharks will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Armada surely won't give up without a fight.
